Via Splendoris (“The way of brilliance”) is a new literary magazine from the community at the University of Maine’s Newman Center in Orono. Literary magazines are a collection of short stories, photography, and art. They are dedicated to giving artists a way to publish their creative work. The goal of Via Splendoris is to share creative works with the transcendentals of truth, beauty, and goodness. The transcendentals are qualities of God that we perceive in His creation. In our world today, whether we realize it or not, everyone desires to find truth in academics or research, experience beauty in the world around them, and witness goodness in others. This is especially relevant on the college campus, where students are discovering more on their own. But in the Christian life, the transcendentals take on new meanings with greater depth, since all is rooted in a love that never ends. Truth, beauty, and goodness have a way of captivating us and drawing us closer to the Divine, by giving us glimpses of the infinite through the finite. We desire for everything to point back to Him and hope you rediscover the transcendentals in Christ and His Church. We hope these works of art, written or created, captivate you and reintroduce you to Love Himself.
